Calcium Sulfate for Bone Repair:
As a commonly used calcium sulfate material in the field of alveolar bone repair, it has already enjoyed a century-long history as a bone-repairing material in Western countries—back in 1892, Dreesman and colleagues first applied calcium sulfate-based bone scaffolds clinically to fill bone tissue defects. This material boasts excellent biocompatibility, is fully biodegradable, and causes no foreign-body irritation to surrounding tissues. Moreover, it can be easily injected into bone defects, where it solidifies in situ, making it widely regarded as one of the most promising alternatives to traditional bone grafts. In 1995, OsteoSet@, a calcium sulfate-based artificial bone produced by the U.S.-based Wright Company, successfully passed the ISO10993, USP, and ASTM biocompatibility standard tests. By 1996, calcium sulfate had received clinical approval under both the U.S. FDA and European CE standards.
The calcium sulfate bone repair material developed by our research group is directly benchmarked against the calcium sulfate synthetic bone material produced by Wright Corporation of the United States. The benchmarking results are as follows:

The above results show that the calcium sulfate product developed by the research team has already approached or even partially surpassed the relevant products manufactured by the U.S.-based Wright Company in terms of morphology, composition, and performance. Furthermore, animal experiments conducted jointly with the 920th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force demonstrate that the self-made calcium sulfate material exhibits excellent bone defect repair capabilities.
